Ok, so a few things about this clip...
- The movie looks ridiculous. Therefore, I want to see it.
- Angelina Jolie is hot. Therefore, I want to see it.
- The dude has the most annoying voice in the world. Therefore, I probably won't see it.
A guy sat down next to me in the halls of SXSWi today, and we chatted a bit. Turns out he is a film artist and producer that made an exeedingly odd movie in his closet studio last year, and won a Sundance new media award for it. The trailer for it is below.

I'm not putting this behind a cut because I'm not spoiling anything. There isn't really anything to spoil anyway.
Not much to say here.. I mentioned this to A and it holds true through the whole film, the emphasis is style over substance. With nothing original but the dialog (and most of that isn't very good), the only thing left to marvel at is the cinematography and effects.
They were fairly impressive, for the most part. But in some attempt to make the movie more 'comic-like' they did the photoshop-equivalent of airbrushing to many of the character's faces, especially Milla's. In fact, there was one scene where UV looks down at the floor and her nose disappears. It is literally airbrushed out of existence.
A little more about the (almost painfully obvious) references this movie draws upon, well maybe just a list. Blade Runner, the Matrix, Aeon Flux, X-Men, Underworld, Hard Boiled, Equilibrium, and even The One. And when I say this movie 'refers' to these films, I mean it takes specific moments, either the camera angle, thes set-up or the pacing, directly from these other films.
By the way, was this movie based on an actual comic or is it just trying to cash in on the current love of comic-to-film conversions?
Meh.. it's super flashy anyway. Like a dream, it was troubling in parts, not too long, and easy to dismiss it upon exiting the theater.
I will say this, the music was pretty fun. It was an almost continuous backdrop of techno that wasn't too heavy during the (two) calmer parts of the film, and kept the action scenes pumping.
